Suomi.fi Messages will be activated automatically when you log in to Sotekassa’s eService starting from April 14, 2026
Receiving official mail will transition primarily to digital format starting in April. When you on or after 14 April 2026 identify in Sotekassa’s eService or in any other public authority’s online service for the first time, Suomi.fi Messages – the electronic mailbox for official communications – will be automatically activated for you.
What does this mean for you?
- After Suomi.fi Messages has been activated, you will receive messages and decisions from many public authorities directly to your Suomi.fi electronic mailbox.
- This change does not affect Sotekassa’s communications. You will continue to receive decisions and messages in eService or by post, just as before.
- No information from Sotekassa’s decisions or messages will be transferred to Suomi.fi Messages.
How Suomi.fi Messages is activated
- Suomi.fi Messages will be activated automatically the first time you log in using Suomi.fi authentication after April 14, 2026.
- During activation, you will be asked to provide your email address. Notifications about new messages in your Suomi.fi mailbox will be sent to that address.
- After providing your email address, you continue the login process as usual and proceed to the online service you intended to use.
- Activation does not prevent you from receiving official mail on paper as well, if you prefer. You can change your settings later in the Suomi.fi service.
If you wish to continue receiving official mail on paper
After Suomi.fi Messages has been activated, you can switch back to paper mail in the Suomi.fi service settings or by contacting the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s customer service. The change can be made only after Suomi.fi Messages has been activated in April, not beforehand.
Please note that the paper mail option remains valid for one year at a time. If you log in again to an electronic service after one year, Suomi.fi Messages will be automatically reactivated.
Not all official messages will be delivered to Suomi.fi Messages
Not all messages sent by authorities will be delivered to Suomi.fi Messages in the future. Some authorities also use other channels for digital communication. Check each authority’s communication practices on their website or in their announcements.
