Often asked about membership
On this page, you will find answers to the most common questions about membership that concern our customers the most.
Membership application and validity
Log in to eServices from the eServices button on our website with your bank details, mobile certificate or certificate card. On the right side, you will find information about your membership, such as the date of joining and possible date of termination.
You can log in to eServices for another four months after your membership ends.
If you are unable to log in or are unsure about your membership, please contact our customer service. See the contact information for the Sotekassa.
Due to a technical fault, the funds email inbox is not sending automatic acknowledgements for the time being. However, messages will still be delivered normally.
We will send you a notification that your fund membership has started once your membership application has been processed.
We process membership applications in the order they are received. Processing may take several weeks. The time varies depending on the number of membership applications.
If you apply for membership of both a union and the fund on the same form, we will only process your application after the union has confirmed your membership. This ensures, for example, that the membership fee is invoiced to the correct party.
You will receive a written notification when your membership application has been processed. If your membership cannot be approved, you will receive a decision and instructions on how to appeal.
If you have applied for membership of both a union and the fund using the same form, the same date may temporarily appear in eServices as both the joining and resignation date.
This is because the information in your application is transferred from the union’s register to the fund’s system before the fund has had time to process the application. This is a temporary entry. Once your membership in the fund is approved, the information will be updated automatically, and the resignation date will be removed.
Yes, you can. You can belong to both the union and Sotekassa or just one of them.
If you want to resign from the union but continue as a member of the Sotekassa, notify your union. In your message, state that you are leaving the union but want to maintain your membership in Sotekassa.
Resigning from the union does not automatically end your membership in Sotekassa and your already accumulated unemployment benefit will not be lost.
When your union membership ends, you must pay Sotekassa membership fee yourself. The membership fee is 42 euros per year (3.50 euros per month), and it is invoiced once a year.
The union will notify Sotekassa of the termination of your union membership. You will first receive confirmation from the union that your union membership has ended and then confirmation from Sotekassa that your membership in the fund continues. We will send you a separate invoice for the fund’s membership fee after this.
We send the majority of our messages as eServices messages. Log in to eServices and check your Communication Settings. You can choose whether you want to be notified by email or text message when you receive a new message in eServices.
We recommend that you enable notifications. This way, you will be notified of new messages quickly and will not be left waiting for decisions or requests for further clarification, for example.
Membership fees
Sotekassa fund’s membership fee is 42 euros per year (3.50 euros per month). If your membership is only valid for part of the year, you only pay the membership fee for the period of membership.
If you pay the membership fee yourself, you will receive an invoice once a year. We recommend ordering the invoice as an e-invoice in your online bank.
If you belong to one of our partner unions and are a member of both the union and Sotekassa, the union will pay the membership fee on your behalf. In this case, you only need to pay the union membership fee.
No need. It is the same membership fee invoice, so you only need to pay it once.
If you have not activated e-invoice, we will send the membership fee invoice by mail. If you use Posti’s OmaPosti service, the same invoice can arrive both in OmaPosti and as a paper letter, depending on your settings.
If you use OmaPosti, please check that the settings selected in the service are to your liking.
Sotekassa handles unemployment insurance for members of four different unions. We ask that you always contact your own union regarding union membership fees. You can find the unions’ contact information at the bottom of the Contact page.
Due to data protection legislation, the unemployment fund cannot inform the union about your unemployment, employment or other information you have provided to the fund.
If you receive a message from your union about unpaid union membership fees, please contact your union as soon as possible to clarify the matter.
If your union pays Sotekassa fund’s membership fee on your behalf, please ensure that you pay the union’s membership fees on time. This will ensure that your membership in Sotekassa can continue without interruption.
If the union terminates your membership due to unpaid membership fees, your membership in Sotekassa will not automatically end. If you wish to continue as a member of Sotekassa, you have to pay the fund membership fee yourself in the future. We will send you a membership fee invoice when we have received notification of the end of your union membership.
Changing unemployment insurance and entrepreneurship
No need.
Membership in Sotekassa is based on your education in the social and health sector, not on the field you work in. This means you can keep your membership even if you work in a different field.
You should only consider changing funds if you are becoming a full-time entrepreneur. See also the section “I am becoming an entrepreneur” below.
The unemployment benefits you have accrued in your previous unemployment fund will be transferred to your new fund, provided that there is no break of more than a month between your memberships in the funds. In addition, it is required that the membership fees of the previous fund have been paid until the end of your membership.
If your business is a sideline, done alongside paid employment, you can continue as a member of Sotekassa as normal.
If you become a full-time entrepreneur, you can maintain your membership in Sotekassa for a maximum of 18 months.
Since an entrepreneur’s earnings-related unemployment benefit only accrues during the membership in the Entrepreneur’s Fund, we recommend that you join the Entrepreneur’s Fund as soon as you start your business.
