You will continue to receive a tax deduction for Sotekassa’s membership fee

The government has approved a legislative amendment regarding the tax deductibility of association fees. The amendment will enter into force on 1 January 2026. The amendment does not apply to unemployment fund membership fees. This means that the unemployment fund membership fee will continue to be tax-deductible.

The unemployment fund membership fee is tax-deductible regardless of whether you are also a union member or only a fund member.

The fund reports information on the membership fees paid by its members to the tax authorities each year. Therefore, you do not need to take any action yourself.

The funds membership fee does not appear on the tax card

The Tax Administration reports that a change in the law also affects the information shown on tax cards. The unemployment fund membership fee will not appear on the tax card, even though the fee is tax-deductible. According to the Tax Administration, you do not need to request a revised tax card because of this change.
