Do this, when you start a new job

If you are applying for earnings‑related unemployment allowance and start a new job, remember to send a copy of your employment contract to your unemployment fund. The contract must specify: the start date and estimated duration of the employment and the working hours. Also, always notify the employment authority about the employment you have started.

Are you starting a full-time job lasting more than two weeks?

Work is considered full-time job that lasts more than two weeks if it meets both the following conditions:

  • it lasts at least 15 calendar days, and
  • the working hours exceed 80 % of the sector’s maximum working time (i.e. more than 80 % of full-time).

In such a case earnings-related allowance cannot be paid during the period of work.

If you start a full-time job lasting longer than two weeks, you should fill out your earnings‑related allowance application up to the employment start date and attach your employment contract to the application.

Are you starting part-time work or full‑time work lasting no more than two weeks?

If you begin part-time work, or full-time work lasting no more than 14 calendar days, you may still be entitled to earnings‑related unemployment allowance even while working. Income earned during such part‑time or short-term work is taken into account in calculating your allowance.

In these cases, you should fill out your earnings‑related allowance application as usual for monthly or four‑week periods, and attach your employment contract to the application.

Submitting a correctly completed application with all required attachments ensures that the unemployment fund can process your claim accurately and without unnecessary delays.
