Tips for using the calculator
Enter gross amounts in the calculator, that is, amounts before deduction of taxes. The earnings-related unemployment allowance is taxable income, which means that tax will be deducted from the amount given by the calculator.
Your salary per month before tax
In this field, please fill in your monthly salary income before tax. The amount of daily allowance is calculated on the basis of the wages paid during the 12 months preceding the unemployment or lay-off.
If your salary has varied, fill in your average salary income in this field. You get the sum by adding up all your taxable wages over the last 12 months and dividing the total by 12. Do not include in your wages the amount of holiday compensation or vacation paid as monetary compensation for untaken holidays.
Your income before tax during unemployment or lay-off
Fill in here any salary income paid during the period of unemployment or lay-off, or income from part-time self-employment. Income affects the daily allowance for the month in which it is paid. Read more about income affecting unemployment benefits
If you have no income during the period of unemployment or lay-off, leave this field blank.
Your social security benefits during unemployment or lay-off
Certain social security benefits reduce the amount of unemployment allowance. These include
- child home care allowance
- flexible care allowance
- partial disability pension.
Enter the monthly amount of the benefit in this field.
Note: Not all benefits affect the daily allowance. For example, housing allowance and child benefit do not reduce the daily allowance. On the other hand, some benefits may prevent it from being paid at all.

Results
Once you have entered the necessary information in the calculator, click the button “Calculate daily allowance”. The results are displayed on the right side of the calculator.
- When the payment of your daily allowance starts, the amount of your daily allowance is estimated for the first 40 days of payment. The amount shown is the amount of daily allowance for one day.
- Under Average daily allowance per month, you can see how much your daily allowance is per month for the first 40 days of payment (that is, for about 2 months). Unemployment allowance is paid for 5 days a week. Since the number of days in a month varies, the amount paid each month will vary slightly from month to month.
- Your daily allowance after 40 days tells you how much your daily allowance will be after the first graduated reduction. You will continue to receive this amount until you have received a daily allowance for 170 days (that is, for about 8 months).
- Your daily allowance after 170 days tells you how much your daily allowance will be after the second graduated reduction. You will receive this amount of daily allowance until you meet the employment condition again or until you reach the maximum period for the daily allowance.
