Sotekassa membership provides security in the event of unemployment or lay-off
In spring 2025, the Unemployment Fund of Social and Healthcare workers introduced a new Finnish brand name, Sotekassa. The Fund safeguards its members’ livelihoods by paying the following benefits:
- earnings-related unemployment allowance
- mobility allowance
- transition security allowance.
The Fund also provides its members with employment support services.
Sotekassa is the least expensive unemployment fund in Finland
Sotekassa’s membership fee is the lowest in Finland. By joining the Fund, you get insurance to cover unemployment or lay-off for just €42 a year. You can also join the Fund in the middle of the year, in which case the membership fee is €3.50 per month for the remaining months of that year.
You can join Sotekassa if you are a qualified health and social care professional, early childhood education and care professional, or rehabilitation professional, or a student of one of these disciplines. You can be a member of the Fund even if you work in another sector.
Sotekassa has over 130 000 members, making it the fourth largest unemployment fund in Finland.
Sotekassa cooperates with Tehy ry, the Finnish Association of Physiotherapists, the Finnish Association of Occupational Therapists and the Finnish Association of Occupational Health Nurses. If you are a member of one of these unions, the union will pay the unemployment fund membership fee on your behalf. However, you can be a member of the Fund without being a member of a trade union.
